The Dawn of Organic Robots....
I'm pissed about a lot of things. I wish I was ignorant, I wouldn't be so pissed then. But then again, finding the bliss even in lack of ignorance always seemed like a goal to strive for. Who cares though, I'm just venting so I don't implode. You can stop pretending to be polite and just read the whole article if your interest is piqued. If not, well too bad. Hey, I'm usually a cheerful, happy go lucky person but my tolerance for bullshit is deceivingly low, just like my college grades.
Right now I'm pissed off about how my generation of millennials is happily undergoing a 4G touch-screen self induced lobotomy one lousy swipe at a time. I started noticing this when growing up as a teenager in the 2000s but back then it all seemed like an expected progression given how fast technology was evolving then. We all started getting attached to our phones and started alienating ourselves from our own immediate reality beyond those colored 4 inches of screen. But this trend of being overly attached and consumed by our personal devices broke new barriers after 2010 and that's where something has gone so very wrong.
With having all our needs shoved into a small device, we have come to a point where a phone is considered as necessary for survival as an organ in the body. And almost as if our phones have become external organs, we have developed quite an attachment and don't feel functional without a device and an internet connection. One has to wonder if these small electronic devices really have the power to change what it even means to be human anymore.
And this pisses me off. I see so many people going along with this. Giving up their time, attention, consciousness, emotions just for social validation in cyberspace. As if who you are online determines how you will be in real life. Yeah right. But see, we are so hopelessly dependent that we can't do anything but embrace this tide of silicon chips replacing what only we could do before with our bodies and minds. Is this what we really wanted? To become slaves to tiny devices that rule over our intentions, actions, and behavior.
You can be anywhere in the world where there are smartphones and you will start seeing hoards of hunched over humanoids that resemble human beings but behave very differently. These creatures would usually be moving around just like humans, appearing to navigate through life but they do so through the eyes of their devices not their own. These creatures like to capture every second of their lives onto memory cards because they believe memorizing and recalling things without any technology is too much their 5 second attention spans. It's sad we're evolving into these pseudo-functional technology dependent, useless bags of flesh and blood.
Specially with the younger generations who have grown up around these devices, life doesn't exist without their favorite choice of Tablets, Laptops, and Smartphones. And whatever the F@U!K happened to growing up playing outside rolling around in the dirt? Parents do a great job throwing iPads at their children rather than going outside to play with them. We have compromised on so much just for convenience. Just because we have grown accustom to this comfort zone that's more like a pathetic self created prison.
We are literally missing out on living our lives because we are busy living virtual lives that feed on likes, followers, and hits. Why can't we see this? Or do we see it but don't want to waste what grey matter we have left to make any changes in our lives.
I believe there is still hope though. If you feel you are being overly attached or obsessive about maintaining your online identity, maybe its time to back off a bit. We shouldn't have such fragile egos and low self esteem that we get addicted to seeking validation on the internet. You are not your Twitter handle, you are not your Facebook profile, and you are not your Instashits. You're a living breathing conscious part of the cosmos, its time you re-evaluated your priorities and started living the part. Spend your time wisely. Be attached to love not smartphones, share happiness not Facebook posts. Follow good virtues, not twitter handles. And maybe, just maybe you have a shot at salvation from this technopocalyps.
